SURGERY

We just got home from an ENT visit with all Cooper children.  And...it actually wasn't too bad.  All kids behaved and cooperated!

Bennett - He has had strep throat 3 (or 4) times since June.  He is not currently symptomatic.  He was swabbed and his culture was sent off to see if he is a carrier of the strep virus.  If he is a carrier, they will treat him with an extended dose of a strong antibiotic to try to eradicate it from his system.  If this comes back negative, then it is my turn to be swabbed and see if I am the carrier.

Maggie - She has had strep throat 3 times since August.  She is not currently symptomatic.  Her tonsils are currently swollen - on a scale of 1-4...she is currently a 3.  They usually don't go down a surgery path until you have strep 5-6 times in a year.  Since she has already had it 3 times in a 3-4 month period, she is on a little different path.  If she gets strep 1-2 more times, then we are to call immediately call and schedule surgery for her.  The hope is that if we can eradicate all of the strep from our household then she won't get it again.

Grace - my sweet Grace.  Grace has been diagnosed with strep throat 5 times since August 2.  The last 2 diagnosis have been exactly 3 weeks apart.  When we checked in today, she was running a temp of 99.1...and she is currently on antibiotic.  The plan?  Grace is having a tonsillectomy on December 8.  The doctor said we are looking at a 10 day recovery period.  Unfortunately, this is a super busy time of year for all of us.  That is the soonest that we can get in for surgery.  Right now, we don't know a set time yet.  I am waiting to hear back from ENT or the cardiologist on some of the details.  ENT ideally wants her off aspirin for 10 days.  I don't know that cardiology will go for that time frame.  The ENT feels like we won't have to spend the night at the hospital, but has already warned us that he will for sure be keeping her all day to monitor her.  I told him that I will bring an overnight bag just in case.

I think that just about sums up the Cooper medical update.  I hope that you and your have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I know that I am incredibly thankful for many things in my life.

HALLOWEEN

Halloween is always a fun time around The Cooper Empire.  The kids love to think about what they want to be.  This year Bennett decided on Star Lord (from Guardians of the Galaxy), Grace decided on Pocahontas, and Maggie went with Sleeping Beauty.  They were so excited to get their costumes.  They started looking out the front door around 5 ready to go trick-or-treating.    We finally ventured out around 6:30...before anyone else in our neighborhood was out.  :)

I love these cuties!!

MAKE-A-WISH HOLLYWOOD DOMINO

There is an event that travels around the United States called Hollywood Domino.  This year the celebrity guest was Vanessa Hudgins.  She chose Make-a-Wish as one of the recipients from the event.  All of this to say...Grace was invited to a private art party to create art to be auctioned off at the event.  She was so excited.  Once we arrived, she was paired with Jordan and they created a beautiful masterpiece!!
Love our new Make-a-Wish bow that Ms. Heather made!!

BENNETT TURNS 10

I really do not know how it is possible that I am a mother of a 10-year old.  It seems like I blinked and now he is in the double digits.

Bennett chose not to have a party this year because he really wanted the new Disney Infinity game with the super heros.  Okay...great!  Until we realized that the new version doesn't work on a Wii and we would have to buy a whole new gaming system.  Yikes...that wasn't exactly in the budget.

He ended up having 3 friends sleepover...each on a different night.  I think he had a great time and got to do something different with each friend.

The only thing that he definitely requested was dinner "at the place where they cook in front of you."  He was so excited about eating there!  The owner of the restaurant enjoyed his excitement so much that he gave him a free marble drink on our way out the door!!

I love seeing this boy grow.  He gets more creative and artistic as each day passes.  He is the best big brother to his sisters...even when he yells at them.  I love seeing their relationship develop.  I love hearing his stories and listening to a million facts about super heros, Ninja Turtles, and Star Wars.  Man....I am super lucky to be his mom.

I took Bennett to get his hair cut on his birthday.  The lady asked him if he wanted a shampoo too.   Before I could answer, he said yes!  He was treated to a warm towel and an awesome head massage.

MAKE-A-WISH TRAIN RIDE

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad hosted several Make-a-Wish families for a special train ride.  We have heard about the train ride, but we were on our Wish Trip last year and missed the ride.  We had a great time!!  Daddy and Bennett decided to go to Austin to the game, so we took Grandpa and Nana along with us.  It was super cool to ride on the train.  We walked from one end to the other to see all of the different cars.  I loved the bedroom...it was much bigger than I envisioned.  I could do some good sleeping on that train!!

Lauren works for Make-a-Wish.  She and Grace have this special bond....so much so that Grace cried on the way home because she wanted to stay with Lauren.

SIX FLAGS SURPRISE

When we checked out of Give Kids the World Village from our Wish Trip, we were given a passport of partners.  One of the partners was Six Flags.  Our free passes expired on October 19 so we headed to the park on October 18.  We decided at the very last minute to go after work and didn't tell the kids.  They were so surprised and had so much fun!

Maggie would run up to every ride and stand against the measuring stick.  "Am I older enough to ride??"

We ate a small snack while we were at Six Flags so we were pretty much starving.  We decided to treat the kids to IHOP on our way home.  As you can tell....we were all pretty delirious by this point.
Bennett wanted everyone to make a scary face...

Someone figured out how to take selfies....

MAKE-A-WISH OCTOBER ART PARTY

I know I have said it a million times....but we LOVE Make-a-Wish.  My kids love going to the Wishing Place and making art for Wish Night.  October's activity was canvas painting.  The big kids had a blast!
